OBJECTIVES OF THE GOLF CLUB

·            To provide a social form of golf competition to members of the Bronte RSL Club on approximately a monthly basis.
·            To provide an environment for new members of the RSL Club to meet and socialise with existing members of the RSL Club.
·            To attract new members to the RSL Club by the provision of an activity in which all age groups can compete.
·            Encourage the use of the facilities provided by the RSL Club.

ACTIONS TO OBTAIN OBJECTIVES

The Committee of the golf club organise a game of golf for its’ members on approximately a monthly basis with local golf clubs such as Eastlake, Randwick and The Coast. Generally once a year a trip away is also organised. In the past these have usually been to Mollymook or Nelson Bay Golf Clubs. Trips have also been organised to golfs clubs in the Illawarra area and one year to Darwin and Alice Springs.
To ensure the social nature of the competition each game is generally a team event. Any new member will always be partnered in order that they feel that they immediately fit in. Pairs or foursomes are generally changed at each outing to ensure that new members get to meet and play with numerous other members.
After each game the Committee organise a lunch back at the RSL Club and open a ‘dry till’ for the players for a short while. A short presentation ceremony follows awarding the small prizes for the day. After the presentation many players remain for the afternoon.

MEMBERSHIP

Any member of the golf club must be a financial member of the RSL Club.
As golf is a game that can be played at most ages, the membership is varied from early 20’s up to 70’s. The members are often active members of the RSL Club ranging from past and current presidents, other directors of the club and active committee persons of other sub-clubs such as the snooker club.

REPRESENTATION OF THE RSL CLUB

Twice a year the golf club represents the RSL Club in the Waverley Shield. The Waverley Shield is a competition between the local clubs of the Waverley area. Each club enters four teams of two players. Clubs currently competing in this event are Bronte RSL Club, the Legion Club, Bondi Junction Waverley RSL Club, the Diggers Club, the Icebergs Club and North Bondi RSL Club.
The emphasis on this event is also very social. The golf club has represented the RSL Club very well winning the overall event on a number of occasions.
Each participant club takes turns in organising the event. This includes hosting meetings of representatives from each of the participating clubs. When it is our turn to organise the event these meetings are always held at the Bronte RSL Club.
When the golf club is conducting either our monthly games at local clubs or on trips away we are aware that we are seen to be representing the RSL Club and the committee emphasises this to our members. We require that all players conduct themselves in a manner that would not bring the RSL Club into any disrepute.
